Simple Wordpress SEO

by on January 12, 2010

A friend of mine asked me the other day why a niche blog he created wasn’t indexed yet…It had been like 9 days since he started said blog and followed through with a simple indexing process that I showed him. I use the same technique and it works every time for lightning quick indexing, like under 24 hours fast.

So I took a look at it for him and everything looked good. He had all the SEO plugins I recommend i.e. Platinum SEO, redirect, xml sitemap, broken link checker, etc. I couldn’t figure out what was wrong…?

wp-privacy-settings-blog

I was thinking so hard about the topic, I skipped over one of the simplest parts…I forgot to check the Privacy page under the Settings tab…duh!

So when that’s not checked off it the ” < meta name='robots' content='noindex, nofollow' /> ” is then placed into the < head > section of your index.php page, which of course causes search engines like Google and Yahoo to skip right over your site, and it also notifies hits to robots.txt to send back: User-agent/; Disallow: /

So next time if you’re stuck trying to figure out why your blog isn’t showing in the SERP’s, check out the privacy page! :)

Here’s a list of SEO plugins I use personally and recommend:

  • Platinum SEO
    Redirection
    XML Sitemap
    SEO Friendly Images
    Robots Meta
    No Self Pings

It really took several days and even more than a month to rank a site in Google… Yes right, all it takes is the right plugins and SEO thing. Bookmarkings, commenting, rss, ping, etc are the secrets for a successful Google Rank…
